Carey International transforms its DOS-based apps to Windows-based apps using Magic's Application Platform
Carey International

"Magic's Professional Services team helped us to leverage our investment by importing logic from our existing applications and migrating data from both Btrieve files and proprietary ERP systems. We integrating this system with our online e-business systems without abandoning the investments of the past -- starting from scratch could have cost ten times as much."

Magic Software Enterprises Stretches Limousine Systems
Challenge
Carey International is the world's largest chauffeured vehicle service company. The company provides chauffeured sedan, limousine, van, and minibus services through a worldwide network of owned and operated companies, licensees, and affiliates services in 480 cities in 75 countries.
Solution
Utilizing Magic Software’s eDeveloper's (today branded Magic xpa Application Platform) capabilities for cross-platform and cross-database migration, Magic Software was asked to transform Carey International's Friendly Billing system, from a DOS based application running on Novell with Pervasive Btrieve 6.15, to a Windows-based application using the Oracle 8 Database Server on Sun Solaris and supporting Windows 98/2000/NT clients.
Value
The system now supports Carey International’s operations worldwide. Carey links its centralized reservation system to more than 300,000 terminals at travel agencies, corporate travel departments, and government offices. The company also offers online, real-time reservations and price estimates.
Magic Software’s ability to migrate applications created years ago from technology that is now several generations old, demonstrates the real value of eDeveloper’s cross-platform and cross-database development environment.
Magic Software's eDeveloper supports a wide range of architectures including Windows, UNIX, Linux and OS/400. In addition, Magic Software incorporates high-speed native database gateways to all major databases including Oracle, IBM DB2, IBM DB2/400, IBM Informix, MS-SQL, and Pervasive.SQL.
