FMRP Uses Magic's Technology to Develop and Integrate JD Edwards on IBM i for Improved Operational Performance

Magic Customers - Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan Inc (FMRP)

“uniPaaS is more efficient, brings more money in, lets less money out, and eliminates, or at least drastically reduces bugs. It is difficult to quantify the value of a custom business system that automates and manages every process in the core of your business. The Custom Reinsurance System created by Magic is vital to our operations and has a value to FMRP of millions more than what we paid for it. We wouldn’t even dream of going back to the way things were - no way."

Jack Black, Information Systems Manager, FMRP

Company

Established in 1959, Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan, Inc. (FMRP) is owned by over 60 rural mutual insurance companies in eight provinces of Canada. FMRP has assets of over $400 million and annual premiums of over $150 million.

Challenge

As business processes and IT systems evolved over time, FMRP operators had to perform daily batch tasks to synchronize between the company's JD Edwards ERP system and a third-party Claims Management system. This created delays of 24 hours or more in processing business data.

Jack Black, Information Systems Manager for FMRP, described the situation: “Over time, more and more fixes and manual processes were creeping in. We were like frogs in a cold pot of water set to boil. Our worsening situation was so gradual, that we didn’t notice it until we were nearly cooked.”

Solution

FMRP opted to use Magic Application Platform and Magic Integration Platform in parallel with the company’s own professional services.

“With iBOLT and uniPaaS, FMRP is able to fully leverage the business process enhancements possible on the IBM System i, which is widely regarded as the most scalable and reliable platform for secure business transactions,” said Black.

Benefits

The improvement to FMRP’s business operations has led to increased customer and employee satisfaction, improved business responsiveness, greater efficiency and reliability, and reduced risk.
